Case binding is known for its sturdy rigid cover and durability. The hard casing protects the pages inside and the edges of the cover itself from any dents or knocks and exudes a classic look. Case Binding is used for hardcover books. Small groups of folded pages are sewn together using strong thread, which is then enveloped in a hardboard cover otherwise known as a case.

The finished result is a durable, hardwearing case which is commonly used for long life publications. The chosen cover material is fixed to binding boards with end papers which fix the cover in place and cover any rough edges.
There is an individual piece of board for the front, back and spine which ensures every side of the book is protected, and creates more movability which enables the book to lie flat. Each section of the hardcover case can also be branded.
The book block is held to the case via a sheet of card which is pasted to the front, back and spine of the book. This piece of card is called an end paper and also allows for extra customisation.

You can cover the front of the boards with materials such as book binding cloth, leather, or Printed Paper Case to customise the front of your case bound notebook. You can also add a just jacket to a case bound book for extra embellishment.
When considering a design for a case bound book you must take into account not only the bleed, hinge and fold over but also the width of the spine which will be reasonably wide.
Hardcover notebooks have a classic look which exudes quality, and because of this they are perfect for special events or occasions. However, their durability also makes them suitable for frequent use.
