Questions

Coffee-table books FAQ

What’s the minimum copy count?

From 10 copies upwards. We specialise in short-run digital printing — most coffee-table editions on the high street come from offshore long runs of 5,000+ copies, but we can produce the same finishing standard at 10, 25 or 50 copies for portfolio editions, gallery commissions or private-press runs.

Why thread-sewn binding for a photo book?

Because the gutter eats your panoramic spreads. Thread-sewn binding stitches the pages into sections before binding, so the book opens flat across every double-page spread — essential for landscape photography, art reproductions and any image that crosses the centre of the book. Perfect-bound (glued spine) photo books always swallow part of the image at the gutter.

Should I choose gloss, silk or matte paper?

Gloss for the most saturated colour reproduction; ideal for high-contrast photography and product shots. Silk is the middle ground — vibrant colour without the high-gloss shine; the most popular for editorial photography. Matte reads as more refined; better for monochrome work and editorial-led books where the photography wants to feel restrained rather than saturated.

Can you do dust jackets?

Yes. Printed dust jackets over a cloth or PPC case are common for premium coffee-table editions — the case underneath can be foil-blocked or embossed so the book still looks deliberate with the jacket removed. Slipcases and presentation boxes also available for the most premium gift editions.

How long does a coffee-table book take to print?

Standard turnaround is around 10–12 working days for hardback, faster for paperback editions. Express options are available where the deadline is tight — call before placing the order if you have a fixed gallery opening or launch date and we’ll confirm what’s achievable.

What’s the largest size you can print?

Up to 300mm × 300mm square as standard. Larger formats are possible by special arrangement; drop us a note with the trim size you’re considering and we’ll confirm whether it’s within our binding equipment’s range.

Can I see a sample before committing?

Yes — order a free sample pack with examples of cloth Wibalin, leather, foil-blocking, paper weights and binding styles. Particularly useful for photographers and artists making spec decisions for portfolio editions.
