Thread-sewn bookblocks have stitched sections that support repeated reference use and help the book open more easily. They are not completely lay-flat, so keep essential details clear of the gutter. Glued binding is a lower-cost alternative; compare samples and the prices for your specification.
Short-run vs print-on-demand: the honest economics
Most academic titles sell in the low hundreds over their life. A big first run ties up budget and fills a warehouse; pure print-on-demand keeps unit costs high and quality variable. Short-run printing with reprint-on-demand sits between the two: print the few hundred you need at proper quality, hold the files, and reprint, or auto-replenish, the moment stock runs down. No dead stock, no warehousing bill, no compromise on the binding.
Colour plates in a mono text
A mono text block with an inset colour plate section is a standard academic need (art history, archaeology, medicine, the sciences) and it's far cheaper than printing the whole book in colour, with better results than digital colour throughout. We set it up routinely; tell us which pages are colour and we'll handle the rest.

We barcode the cover from your ISBN. ONIX metadata tools are coming soon and are not yet available to customers. When you sell, we can ship direct to the UK's largest book distributors and to libraries, so your print and distribution come off one floor.
