Questions

Journal printing FAQ

Can you print custom paper rulings?

Yes — lined, dotted, grid, blank or any custom ruling at no extra cost. We can supply ruling templates if your designer doesn’t have one. Custom rulings work particularly well for branded corporate journals (brand-coloured rule lines, logo watermarks) or speciality planners.

Which binding is best for a planner?

Wire-O for working planners — pages rotate 360° and the journal lies completely flat. Thread-sewn hardback for premium gift planners that need to feel substantial. Perfect or PUR paperback for retail-grade planners at lower price points. We can advise on the best binding for your specific use — drop us a note with the planner’s end use and we’ll recommend.

What paper weight should I choose?

Most personal journals land at 80–100gsm uncoated — light enough not to add too much weight to a thick journal, opaque enough that ink doesn’t show through. For art journals or sketch use, 130–170gsm mixed-media is the right choice. For premium gift journals, 100–120gsm Bookwove gives a slightly heavier, more substantial feel.

Can you print my brand colours on the cover?

Yes — we print covers in full CMYK plus optional foil blocking in gold, silver, white or any solid foil colour. For brand-precise colour, supply Pantone references in your spec and we’ll match as closely as digital printing allows. For exact Pantone matches, foil blocking on a plain cloth or PPC base reproduces brand colour cleanly.

How many copies can I order?

From 10 copies up. Pricing scales meaningfully at 50, 100, 250 and 500 copies — worth running the quote at a couple of quantities to find your sweet spot. For retail journal product we’d typically suggest a first run of 250–500 and reprinting based on sell-through.

How long does it take?

Standard turnaround is 3–5 working days for paperback, 10–12 working days for hardback, from approval of your proof. Express options are available for tight deadlines.

Can I see a sample?

Yes — order a free sample pack showing different binding styles, cover laminations, paper stocks and rulings. Particularly useful for stationery brands and corporate buyers making first-time spec decisions.
