CHOOSING YOUR SCIENCE FICTION COVER

Make the unknown feel worth exploring.

01

Choose a recognisable setting.

A planet suggests a different reading experience from a neon city or a stark graphic composition. Use the artwork to establish the kind of science fiction you have written before a reader reaches the blurb.

02

Keep the title direct.

Strong lettering can sit well against complex space imagery. Give the title enough contrast, and avoid stacking a long subtitle, series name and tagline into the same small area.

03

Introduce the idea through a person.

On the back cover, explain what the discovery or new technology changes for your characters. A clear human problem can make an unfamiliar world easier to enter than a list of invented terms.

questions.

For pricing, shared designs and print preparation, read the collection FAQs.

Are there covers for different kinds of sci-fi?

Yes. Signal zero and The last orbit offer space themes, Neon requiem is a cyberpunk starting point, and Dust of tomorrow suggests a space frontier. Beyond the blue provides a more graphic option.

Can I use a sci-fi cover for a speculative novella?

Yes. Update the book dimensions, paper and page count to match your novella. The builder calculates the resulting spine, so check whether there is enough room for readable spine lettering.

Can I change the artwork as well as the title?

The text and layout are editable, and you can use the builder to replace artwork. Sign in to upload your own image or use its artwork tools, then check the crop across the front, back and spine.
